Why the cleverest people in school aren’t always the most - TopicsExpress

Why the cleverest people in school aren’t always the most successful! In today’s world, we no longer need to look back and wonder what happened to our former classmates - this information is at our fingertips through the power of social media. Have you ever noticed that the people who were the most academic at school are not necessarily the most successful? This is because success is down to so much more than just natural academic ability. Your ability to conceive a worthy goal and craft your attitude and determination to achieve your goal is far more crucial. Successful people tend to spend their lives trying to be better than their “natural” ability would dictate. Typically you can divide people into two camps. Which category do you fall into? Results fixed individual: These people set their goals and do whatever it takes to achieve them. A person who is results fixed won’t care whether they have to start work early, finish late or even work at weekends - they are determined to reach their end goal and will do whatever is necessary to achieve this. Methods fixed individual: These people work to a set pre-determined framework of time or effort. In other words no matter what needs achieving (results) they will not yield to working harder or longer. These methods will often lead to variable results because sometimes their effort is sufficient but other times it isn’t. It’s worth mentioning at this stage that everyone judges success based on their own set of criteria but whether you measure this on your career goals, your personal life or a mixture of the two, the same principles still apply. If you want to have the best possible chance to be successful in whatever you do, you (and the emphasis is very much on YOU) have to have the correct attitude. I am going to share with you five tips on how to achieve this: Five tips for achieving success: 1. Be positive: Successful people are almost always positive and try to surround themselves with other positive people. When things don’t go their way, they view it as a new opportunity to learn something from the marketplace. Successful people will normally always cite their so called failures as fantastic learning opportunities which they have used to very positive effect in their next venture. 2. Believe in yourself (but don’t be over confident): Successful people are confident in their ability to achieve whatever they have set their mind to achieving but not to the point of arrogance. Successful people are typically humble individuals who approach everyone with the same idea – that they can learn something from whomever they come into contact with. They work hard at building a memory bank of successes which they constantly draw upon to propel them forward in tough times. Interestingly they learn from negative experiences but they don’t let their failures define them – they learn from them and move on. 3. Accept criticism: Successful people see constructive criticism as an opportunity to make improvements to their own performance. Constructive criticism should be actively sought out to give you the motivation and drive to keep improving. Beware of being surrounded by too many people who are only willing to tell you nice things about yourself; this will not give you room to grow. 4. Visualise your success: As the saying goes if you don’t know where you are going any road could lead you there! It’s absolutely crucial that you have a vision. It’s your vision and it needs to be unconstrained and big! By visualising your success on a daily basis, you will naturally attract the people and circumstances you need in your life in order to fulfil your dreams. 5. Take responsibility: Successful people take responsibility for their actions and the corresponding consequences. It’s sometimes difficult to take responsibility for everything in your life and occasionally it’s nice and easy to blame someone else, but the moment you take 100% responsibility for everything in your life you will be free! Successful people don’t need to be the most intelligent people in their marketplace in order to achieve exceptional success. They will achieve their dreams through sheer drive and determination; I refer to it as passion, persistence and relentlessness. By following these 5 steps you will have the critical components to start your journey.
