WiT recently hosted their 3D Printing for Medical Applications at The Edge – SLQ. The event was a huge success with over 100 attendees who witnessed live printing of a prosthetic hand and were treated to speakers included Mr Daniel Flood from the Edge on the Open Hand Project, Dr Olga Panagiotopoulou from the University of Queensland School of Biomedical Sciences on 3D analysis to study body motion, A/Prof Mia Woodruff from the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation on biofabrication and 3D printing of bone and tissue replacement & podiatrist Katie Green from 3DOrthotics on 3D printing in practice. The take-home message was that 3D printing technology is becoming increasingly accessible here in Queensland, it enables custom mass production and is changing the future of regenerative medicine.
