Wildfire burns west of Grants Pass A fire west of Grants Pass toward Galice had burned 70 to 75 acres as of about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry. Caitlyn Goins, an ODF public information officer, said few details were known about the fire in mid afternoon. She said the agency had four engines on the scene. Each engine usually carries a two-man crew. On order were a helicopter for water drops, four 20-person crews and four bulldozers. An air tanker usually based in Medford during the local fire season will not be at that airport until Saturday, she said. A growing column of white smoke from the fire could be seen at Grants Pass Downs and many other locations in the city Thursday afternoon.
