**Wildlife Report** An unusual patient came in the Wildlife Department on April 26th. A Virginia Rail, a secretive bird found in freshwater marshes, came in with symptoms of head trauma. The bird was weak and unsteady and in need of medical attention. He was put on pain and anti-inflammatory medications and was tube fed due to his reluctance to eat while in treatment. When the Virginia Rail was stronger and stable, a test flight proved he was ready to be released. On May 1st the bird was released in a marshy area. Known for their stealthy behavior, the Virginia Rail is named for its ability to compress its body to move through its dense habitat.
