Will there ever be a director in our times who could make over 100 fantastic films? Will there ever be a writer in our times who could write stories with strong willed women as its protagonist? Will there ever be auteur in our times who could challenge the society with his thought provoking films? Will there ever be a mentor in our times who could launch several important contributors to the film industry? Will there there ever be a producer so daring in our times? will there ever be a person in our times doing all this all over in our quality staved tamil small screen? Will there ever be another another KB sir ? If my parents gave me the name Sruti. It was He who created the character Sruti in the serial Sahana. I was very young and very naive when I was called into his office. I remember climbing up the stairs to his office with my dad and even before I fully stepped into the room he told his manager Eva pannuduva. enakku theriyum . Even before the moment could sink into me I was at the shoot the next day with my mom. I was so unaware to even stand up and wish him when he entered the shoot spot. I was given a lengthy suttha thamizh speech for the scene and I was struggling with it. It was sync sound and I had to get even the pronunciation perfect. It was the most difficult thing I had done at the point in life . The stories of him losing his temper were running in my head and was making me more nervous. But surprisingly he was very patient and we finally got done with the shoot. When we thought it was all over in a few days we got a call from his office saying that what sir had planned as a one off scene with me is now planning to make a full character in the series. He even named her Sruti. We were taken by surprise and the studious family that we were we expressed that I wont be able to compromise my studies for shoot (What was wrong with me????) . And what Kavithalaya did was amazing which I havent come across till date with any other production house. They worked around the shoot timing around my classes and even called up at times to say the shoot is getting delayed as of now we will let you know when you have to leave home. Sruti in Sahana was much like Sruti in real life who loved fusion music and who also knows to sing carnatic songs. She was the mix of the new and the old. I had the opportunity to lip sync some carnatic songs in the scenes for which the team would give me the audio track in advance so that I could learn the complicated swaras. My good friend and now director Soundarya Srinivasan would train me during class hours. Got to learn some amazing songs this way. looking back Im grateful and blessed for having done my on screen arengetram with KB sir but only wish it came at a time when I was more aware of my life and cinema.
