#Windows9.... oh my... can we just have no new features or changes & a bug-free opsys instead? Hmm, I guess the margin on getting it right isnt the same as dumping another operating system on us that we really, really want... It’s already known that #Microsoft’s Windows 9 will be cloud based, but recently a lot more has been discovered in terms of possible features of the upcoming operating system. In an interview with Jeremy Kaplan at Digital Trends, Head of Microsoft Research Peter Lee said that new ideas such as using learning machines to extract relationships, entities and key ideas are being worked upon. “Maybe even digital-assistant tools to make companies more productive and smarter. That’s one area we’re going at” for Windows 9, Lee said. Although no firm conclusions can be drawn from what Lee said, it is a distinct possibility that cloud and Bing technology will be the backend to the new operating system. One area that Lee said they are working on in Windows 9 is “using #machinelearning to extract #relationships.” #Bing also uses the same concept to show results after trying to understand entity. For instance, when someone searches “Canon 4D” and clicks Canon Rebel Link, then Bing shows the relationship between them. Lee said, “With enterprise there’s similar issues, but with much less data. The computer science ends up being different.” Satya Nadella said, “Going forward, it’s a mobile first, cloud first world.” Lee also indicated that although Windows OSes had not depended on cloud computing until now, it could change with Windows 9. In contrast, Bing depends completely on the back-end power of the cloud. Speaking about the new digital assistant Cortana, Lee said that it is becoming more advanced and “a bit more human” in her responses.
