Wise Hippo news just in...baby born yesterday!! Dear Tamara, The birth itself was perfect! I was booked in for induction at 1:30 Friday afternoon. I went but refused but let them give me a sweep as they said I wouldnt be allowed a home birth if I went beyond Sunday. Actually being in the hospital reminded me how much I didnt want to end up giving birth there! The induction ward is horrible! My surges began at 8 or 8.30 in the evening or something and I stayed relaxed, breathing through them correctly, listening to chilled music and wandering about in my flat, and then the Wise Hippo MP3s in bed before getting into the pool at about 11.45. The midwife got there at about 12 and insisted on examining me outside of the pool which I found a bit irritating because she wanted me to lie on my back on the sofa, which was uncomfortable. I got back in the pool and hummed him out about 15 minutes later! Shed only been there for 25 minutes when Dylan was born!! It was a calm comfortable birth with no tears or need for stitches. Lovely. However I was bleeding a lot afterwards do I needed to go to hospital, which really surprised me because everything had gone so smoothly. So I didnt get a good nights sleep in my own bed and had to hang around all day Saturday, waiting to be discharged, but it was ok. I avoided giving birth there, which was my main objective, so Im happy. Hes a big boy! 9lb3oz 4.180kg. He is so strong and did loads of the work when he was born! He seems so much more relaxed than all of the other babies on the ward I slept on. They were crying all the time and he didnt at all, except just to tell me he was hungry. Thank you so much for your help and advice. It all worked! Helen x
