With the Legends playing away at Grendon, this weekend saw a stern - TopicsExpress

With the Legends playing away at Grendon, this weekend saw a stern challenge from an established team in our division. Getting to the ground you would think that we were on our way to Narnia but we were greeted with a lovely setting and a slightly green and damp wicket which has become the norm for the division and this time of year. Winning the toss, we decided to bat and opened with Ben Willingham and David Morgan. Playing as a pair of classic openers they slowly frustrated the bowlers and started giving us an excellent foundation. The first wicket fell in the 11th over and Ben was replaced by Temoor Alam who showed that coming off an MCC tour of Finland he was still in good nick and David and him started to up the run rate with some delicate shots and some lusty blows. Temoor was out for 75 and with David chugging along with Ishtaq Hussain (23*) and Will Charter we got the score to 198 with David finishing on 66. It is mind over matter for David - whos quotes of I dont bat higher than 8 and I have never opened were dispelled as he lasted 42 overs. He is learning the art of Zen batting by Paul full of it Das. For probably the first time this season we could give our bowlers a total to bowl at....they did not disappoint. Bowling up the hill...and it was a steep hill... Rob Willis and Will Charter bowled 4 maidens in the first 5 overs with Rob removing the opener with a sharp catch to Teemor in the slips. With such tight bowling the frustration of the batsmen was becoming apparent and at the first change Elijah Glover and Guv Bhangal reaped the rewards by removing the other opener and the next 4 batsmen for less than 50 runs. However, in the loss of wickets Grendon tail was slowly creeping towards the required run-rate, and up steps young Ben Willingham to bowl Wisp-esque spin that removed a determined and troublesome tail with 3 stumpings from Riz Alam - whos keeping is getting better and better every week. With that the Legends bowled Gendon out for 134. As always the match was played with good banter from both sides. One of the highlights was also seeing Kristian Barnatt join us and support us even though he had not been picked for the game - which speaks volumes about him and the team spirit. Well played everyone - great spirit as always. Next week we are AWAY to Obelisk 2nd. Lets definitely get our freak on for that.
