With the passing of Manna Dey, curtain fell on a glorious chapter of modern bengali music starting from 1940s till the early nineties. Combining a classically trained voice, a nuanced yet colorful magic of his legendary voice, and a sense of drama, he rendered so many beautiful lyrics into musical delights....that growing up during the zenith of his career..his music has been internalized by many like me. He was also equally adored as a hindi playback singer, and many of his classically based hindi songs are still fresh in the minds of our and our parents generation. Death is the only certainty but the musical treasure he left behind will keep on celebrating his lifelong contribution to the cultural life of indians for many many years to come.
