With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, could Luis Suarez be joining Chelsea?! Some interesting news coming out of Spain tonight with Spanish publication AS claiming that Luis Suarez is on the verge of joining Chelsea from Liverpool for €40m after agreeing a contract worth €5.5m-per-season. The controversial Uruguayan striker has been strongly linked with a move away from Anfield this summer after a turbulent season in England that saw him banned for 10 games for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. It was the latest in a series of offences from the 26-year-old that have been punished by the FA and many thought that if he did leave Liverpool it would be to a team overseas after he revealed his frustration at the treatment he’d received on these shores, with Real Madrid thought to be his most likely destination. However, AS are reporting that Suarez has turned his back on a move to the Spanish capital in favour of linking up with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea and they claim a €40m deal has been struck between the two clubs with the player understood to have agreed a contract worth €5.5m-per-season. Apologies Chelsea fans, but personally I don’t believe a word of this report. It seems the most unlikely of transfers, for many reasons. Here are just a few questions I’m asking myself after reading the AS report: Would Liverpool really agree to sell their star man to a Premier League rival? If Suarez was allowed to leave, would he really want to stay in England after everything that’s gone on? Would Liverpool accept €40m for Suarez after selling Torres to Chelsea for more? Why would Suarez accept wages of €5.5m-per-season, I’m pretty sure he earns more at Liverpool?
