Today’s jobs report for July finds that the U.S. has now added 200,000+ jobs for 6 straight months – and has seen private sector job growth increase for 53 straight months. Combining this news with yesterday’s report that the nation’s GDP grew by 4% between April and June, it is clear that our economy is continuing to make progress. However, July’s 6.2% unemployment rate indicates that we still have work to do. We must pass legislation that will jumpstart our economy and help those Americans who remain out of work. That is why Democrats support emergency unemployment insurance, a raise in the minimum wage, equal pay for equal work, and the elimination of tax breaks for corporations offshoring American jobs. Unfortunately, Republican leaders are preparing to leave Washington for the next month without taking action on a single one of these issues. When will Republicans start working with Democrats to help the unemployed and create jobs?
