Women rights movements and activists situation in Iran - part 1 Uploaded on Dec 8, 2010 One Million Signatures (also known as Change for Equality) is a campaign by Iranian women to collect one million signatures in support of changing discriminatory laws against women in Iran which took place on June 12, 2006 in Haft-e Tir Square in Tehran. The campaign seeks to secure equal rights in marriage and inheritance, an end to polygamy, and stricter punishments for honour killings and other forms of violence. Although the campaign seeks to work within the existing government and just modify o create some changes in laws, a large number of activists have been arrested or threaten by government. These pressures increased after recent presidential election in 2009 and government increase pressure on human rights and feminist activities more than before not only hundreds of activist arrested but also their family members and lawyers threatened or arrested. Iranian women in prison today include human rights activists, lawyers, journalists, and students. Bahareh Hedayat is an Iranian student activist and campaigner for womens rights. She was arrested on 31 December 2009 and her nine and half year sentence was upheld. As her lawyer said she received the maximum sentence. youtu.be/YbJetO67KiI
