Wonderful Weekend Friday afternoon we drove to Ft. Wayne to join in the 8th Annual North Country Adventure. This is the splendid weekend hosted by Marv and Doris Gottlieb for the Mini Car Club of Indiana. With everyone checked in at Hall’s Guest House, we met for dinner followed by Captain Marvo’s Marvelous mini Giveaway. Saturday morning two Sherriff’s deputies escorted us (lights flashing, sirens whooping, blocking intersections so they could get us out of town quicker. The whole time I was thinking, ‘Do you know who I am?’) to our first stop – DeBrand’s International HQ. Chocolate, chocolate everywhere. Thus began our effort to kick-start the economy of Northern Indiana. The next stop was the beautiful Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg Museum in Auburn. Somewhere between 15 and 25 million dollars in gorgeous old cars to drool over. Lunch at the Sweetwater Sound world-wide HQ. A unique business model that looks like a great place to work and play. Does anyone have every Christmas Ornament sold by Hallmark since 1972? YES - the Hallmark Ornament Museum also in Ft. Wayne. More $$. On to the Warsaw Cut Class Company in. . . . Warsaw, IN of course! Original building, from 1911, with the same line-shaft driven grinding wheels. (I had not seen line-shafts since Wickwire Bros in 1971). More $$$ contributed to the economy. Finally, we checked into the Warsaw Wyndham Hotel for a few minutes rest and refresh before dinner at the Boat House in Winona Lake. We then rushed to the Wagon Wheel Theater for a delightful production of Forever Plaid. Some great music that I understand! Nostalgia nicely done. Sunday morning we took off for Cindy’s Bee Hive in Huntington. Did I mention how many Minis’ were on this adventure? It ranged from 14 to 16 cars in different segments. We filled up Cindy’s driveway and converted barn honey store. More $$$$. Next was a short stop at the historic Charley Creek Inn in Wabash and their Old Candy Store. A few blocks away we stopped at Kitchens Plus Primitives shop to spend more $$$$$. The last group stop was at the Big Dipper in Converse. They have Broasted chicken and fish!!! Haven’t had broasted food since the Imperial Broaster Hut in Cortland, NY in the early ’70. Mmmmm good. I also want to thank Sue & Rob Dulmes for introducing me to Mudflap Jones Cajun Kicker. Gotta git me some of that shit. Most of the group finished the day with a visit to the Oak Hill Winery down the street. We headed home instead, arriving there 48 tired, but happy, hours later. Heard Friday evening – “Mini Cooper is the only new car that comes with friends”.
