Woo hoo! Another 5 Star review from the US for my first book on free will) 5.0 out of 5 stars A lucid, in-depth exploration of free will., March 11, 2014 By Ron Massine This review is from: Free Will?: An investigation into whether we have free will, or whether I was always going to write this book (Paperback) Since the time I was young, the idea of free will has always resonated with me. I was a firm believer in dualistic free will for many, many years, but seldom ever took the time to reflect upon what it even meant to have a free will to begin with. Enter Jonathan M.S Pearce, who probes the issue in such a charming, accessible, yet sophisticated manner that the reader is left soaring through the work, yet somehow grasping everything that is covered. I literally devoured the entire book within a few days and can now say (beyond any reasonable doubt) that if you believe in LFW or DFW before reading this book, you most likely will not upon finishing it. Jonathan has a way of contrasting and exploring varying views related to the subject, and gives equal time to the most prominently espoused variants of free will. He never bogs the reader down with too much information, nor does he take the overly simplistic approach that some authors enjoy. Rather, he demonstrates the inherently illogical nature of LFW and DFW such that there is no solid ground for either to stand upon, and he does this in the most accessible manner conceivable. I cannot recommend this book enough. To those who are curious about the issues of free will and determinism, this is a must read. But even if you have already made up your mind about free will, this is a book that is not to be passed up. I await Jonathans next book eagerly!
