Worcester, MA_ Holy Name Jr/Sr High School awarded a $500 scholarship to rising Holy Name Junior/Senior High School Senior Theresa Loell of Uxbridge. The scholarship is funded by the David R. and Rosalie A. Grennon Fund of Greater Worcester Community Foundation. The high school awards it annually to a student of the Blackstone region for tuition assistance. Theresa is the daughter of Anne Marie and Gregory Loell, and has a brother Joshua ‘11. “I am sincerely thankful for the generous scholarship of $500 I have been selected to receive. I feel so blessed and honored. Holy Name Central Catholic High School has afforded me many wonderful opportunities and has helped to shape my future. I look forward to a future where I can help people and give of myself. It is in giving that we truly receive,” says Theresa. Theresa has been very involved in the Holy Name community since she entered the school as a freshman in 2010. She has played field hockey for the junior varsity team in grades 9 and 10 and made the varsity team her junior year. She plans to play for the varsity team again her senior year. Theresa was on the track and field team in grade 10. Throughout her high school career, Theresa played percussion for the prestigious Holy Name Band and joined the chorus. She was inducted into the National Honor Society as a sophomore and will serve as the group’s Secretary her senior year. Theresa also performed in the Holy Name musicals her freshman and sophomore years. HN Principal, Bernard Audette, Ed.D. says, “Theresa is a wonderful young woman who embodies all of what we hope for in a young woman. She makes a positive impact in our school community in terms of the way she interacts with all she comes in contact with each day. Her smile is infectious and makes all those around her feel happy and welcome at all times. Theresa is also concerned about the world beyond Holy Name. All of us in the Holy Name family congratulate Theresa on receiving this well-deserved honor.” Theresa is heavily involved in her church, St. Mary’s of Uxbridge. There she teaches religious education to children in grades 1-6. She also sings in her parish’s folk group on Sundays. “We are extremely proud of Theresa and so appreciative of this grant that she has received,” says Anne Marie. “We’ve watched her grow into a faithful, helpful, generous, caring young woman and we couldn’t be more proud of her!” While a junior at Holy Name, Theresa had the chance to travel to Camp Sunshine in Maine. Camp Sunshine is a year-round retreat, which provides respite, support, joy and hope to children with life-threatening illnesses and their immediate families through various stages of a child’s illness. Inspired by her work at Camp Sunshine, Theresa has decided to become a Child Life Specialist and her dream is to work at Boston Children’s Hospital. Theresa is currently applying to colleges where she can further her learning in this area.
