Word of the day: Progenote (aka LUCA - Last Universal Common Ancestor) ... the proto-cellular form of Life from which all Life on Earth arose. Apparently they had leaky cell membranes and inefficient genetics, and interacted with each other to such an extent that some consider them all together as a single super-organism. Apparently that lifeform was unstable enough that when some members happened to gain strong membranes, the latter become dominant and the progenotes disappeared. About 3 billion years ago, Life on Earth branched into two major types: Bacteria, and Pre-Archaea-Eukaryota. We came from the second.
