Words of a single mom: I have been at the bedside of a child - TopicsExpress

Words of a single mom: I have been at the bedside of a child that depended solely on me. Someone who needed me to change her pants at 11pm, hold her hair at 1am, rub her back each time she threw up. Ensure her that she is okay throughout the night, and make sure I stayed awake to listen to her breathing. She relied solely on me to wash her favorite blanket & elephant that she threw up on - not throwing a fit, yet she was apolozing BC she couldnt control her bodily functions. I had to pick her up off the floor and carry her to the bathroom and give her a sponge bath to get the vomit & feces off of her. I patted her down with a towel and got her dressed in freshly washed clothes numerous times in the past 24 hours, Ive opened Popsicles and made soup that had to be thrown out BC her stomach couldnt take it. Ive listened to the deep shallow breaths of my baby girl & the only words she could mutter is I cant breathe, mommy I watched her collapse to the floor, only being a few steps behind her, throwing everything in my hands to the ground to get to her, yet it still seemed like an infinity to get to her side. Ive changed movies a dozen times and Ive been up and down, helping her blow her nose, tossing the dirty Kleenexes, and giving her water & medicine. Is anything wrong? No. Is everything OK? Yeah, it will be. Am I exhausted? Absolutely. If you suspect your child might have influenza, please take them in. I have never seen my daughter so sick & any support is appreciated!
