Working away on the third draft. Taken quite a bit out - clarifying and simplifying. Its so much easier now to hold onto the continuity. When it takes six or eight months to write the first draft, then several months to do the second, its often hard to get some things right - which is why Im finding that Gamache will have three breakfasts, or Clara will be speaking with Myrna, then suddenly its gabri in the room. But when I can go through a hundred pages at a time, these things become obvious. At this stage most of the major works done and it really is about clarity, and sharpening, honing. Simplifying. I hope. Back at it tomorrow. Bitterly cold here now. Lots of unsettled weather around - youre perhaps affected too.
