Worst coding bootcamp horror story ever, from Coding House! archive.today/do5Sa. What Zed Shaw wrote about shady bootcamps: bit.ly/1yUVWnG . Beware bad bootcamps! Graduating from a bootcamp does NOT mean you are ready to be a junior software developer. You must still put in MONTHS of work before and after that bootcamp to be a competent entry-level developer. Some of my bootcamp classmates who slacked off did not end up working as software developers. Also, some companies avoid bootcamp graduates because of their lack of experience. I interviewed with a company in San Francisco where the CEO told me: Ive interviewed over 70 bootcamp graduates already. He wasnt impressed. I didnt get the job. When I finished my 3-month software internship in Ecuador and planned to come back to LA to find a job, I contacted the head of the biggest LA Ruby/Rails Meetup group (meetup/laruby/), JR Fent. Hes a recruiter. He told me: Dont bother applying for a software job in California. Its too competitive. Why not try Oregon or Washington? You know how many resumes I have from bootcamp graduates? Over 100. Not encouraging. I ignored him, studied like hell for 2 months alone, then applied for jobs. That intensive self-study is what got me interviews and job offers. I looked more advanced than the average bootcamp graduate. While I studied alone, I realized how much Flatiron School had NOT taught me and left out of their curriculum, even though its supposed to be one of the best web developer bootcamps in the U.S.
