Wow. Well it’s been two weeks today since I flew out to begin the next phase of my life, living in the wonderful country of Grenada. It’s been just amazing. The weather’s been mostly sunny although we did have a weekend of intense rain & a large storm. The house is fantastic as ever, I have a great view from my bedroom window and in the first week me and dad went down to his office to get me a desk & chair, which I have been using a lot and have proved most useful, after all sitting at a desk is better then staying in bed. Been doing lots of swimming and a small amount of cycling, my bike’s good except having some problems with the back wheel (keeps shifting to the side and against the frame while cycling which isn’t very helpful). My brakes don’t work as good as I’d like, but then that’s probably just because I’m not used to such hilly terrain. And I won’t lie, the speed I pick up going down some hills does freak me out, especially with the quality of the roads and my lack of trust for my brakes. Going to start going to the gym on early mornings, as well as fixing my diet so that I start to build my muscles and gain some weight while I’m at it. I’ve been aiming at swimming 2000 feet (not the 2250 metres that I originally thought.. Oops?) during each swimming session. Then when I get used to cycling I’ll be trying to spend at least an hour on my bike each day. Swimming’s good for my arms and cycling’s good for my legs so it’s a good balance. Already put together (had to redo most of) my personal applications with my CV’s and handed them in personally to different hotels & restaurants in the centre of Grenada. Already had one job interview which I think went reasonably well, and I look to any opportunity to further my career in the hospitality industry. I haven’t seen as many of the people that I’d have liked to have to start socialising again, but then again it’s hard. A lot of people that I already knew my age have gone off to another country for their own education, and others who I have been friends with that are younger than me are busy in school. It’s different because I’m used to being with people during school holidays so now that everyones got something to do I find myself at home by myself a lot, but then that does give me plenty of time to work on my fitness and research possible job opportunities. I miss my family, that was expected, but I don’t find myself homesick or upset being so far away because to be honest this is and always has been my home. And this is just the next stage in my life, I am not pained by the change, I love it. It’s great to have a little bit more independence, although I’m still living with my parents so it’s not just me. In the coming weeks I hope to start getting out more, going to more social events like hashes and start getting to know people! Well uh.. I do tend to write a lot. But It was an update that I felt I needed to write, if not to share to others at least to actually sit down and ponder the past two weeks. I won’t be making another update post like this until at least Christmas, plenty of time to see what happens until then :)
