Wow even the reservations were taken away all together, or reduced in size from 1891 to the present time. I wonder how we can bring back a thriving relationship and cultivate a deeper cultural understanding of those who were ultimately here before the United States. On some level people are subsequently awakening to the truth of what is being done and has been done to the lands and its people. That is if they throw away their TV and stop with the mindless entertainment that I also indulge in from time to time. Right now Native Hawaiians are fighting for their own sovereignty and some of them are already stating Native Americans have already lost on the mainland. I see many connections between the Native Hawaiian culture of the islands and the Native American culture of the main land. It will be interesting in these times to see what also comes of the DOI Indian Country Consultations – July 29 through August 7. I will reserve my opinions on these matters as I do not fully understand what will come of these talks just yet. Although I do hope what comes of them will be in favor of those who have lost more than just their land.
