Wow, had a great tine at the Rock & Stroll 5k. So first off - TopicsExpress

Wow, had a great tine at the Rock & Stroll 5k. So first off something funny at the bus stop early this morning. As I was waiting some dude passed by me on a motorcycle, did a double take, parked his motorcycle walked over to me, and asked, hey what’s your name, where are you going; can I talk to you, etc. I just ignored him, then hey says, what’s wrong don’t you want to talk to a brother. I smiled and told him I was waiting for the bus and he said well I’ll wait with you; just then the bus came (Yeah). I smiled again and said goodbye. Well that was just strange. Ok to get to the race I needed three modes of transportation, bus, metro train, then a cab. I finally arrived, feeling good. After all it is only a 5k (3.1 miles) and I can jog 5 to 6 miles. However right before the race a friend told me, oh I know you are going to be in the front; for which I responded those days of being competitive are over, I am just a “happy jogger”. So the race started and whatever competitive juices I have left kicked in. Well, to my detriment; I dashed off, like my cross country days; however I ran the first mile way, way too fast (What was I thinking)! By the 2nd mile I was breathing hard and I felt nauseous, like my morning sickness was kicking in and i slowed down rather precipitously; thinking why is this so hard? In the third mile, I was so exhausted that I thought about quitting; but I struggled on and finished. My time, well it was the time I usually jog, about 9 minutes per mile. Boy oh boy am I a long way from the days when I could do a 5k at 5 minutes per mile pace. But I was proud of myself, after all it was all for charity, to the end homelessness. After the race they had all these other activities Hoop Jam with dj Leslie", miniature golf, lots of kids kids’ activities, hula hoop contest, jazzercise, there was also music and I met this amazing child; a boy singer and guitarist oh and I posed with a Virginia beauty queen, and there was good music and of course food; a delicious BBQ buffet all “you can eat” with dessert and refreshments. After it was all over, I was exhausted and while I waited for the bus at Kings Street Metro, I went to Joe Theisman restaurant for an ice cold glass of afternoon cheer. Finally home and a great day for a great cause!
