Wow, in two weeks I will be a year older, and what year its been....... Ive learned so much about myself and the world! In the last twelve months I have been divorced and celebrated my exs new marriage, I have fallen in love and then grieved my new loves unexpected death, I have moved and culled unnecessary belongings. I have helped my daughter through an unplanned pregnancy. I picked out the sweetest new puppy and worked on training her, I expanded my career with nationally recognized speaking engagements. I struggled desperately to keep my business solvent against changing insurance reimbursement policy and challenging in-house staff turn over, I graduated two more student midwives, and attended birth after birth throughout the year without any time off call, except December when I took my kids camping on maui for 25 days..... Its been a whirlwind of a year and I cant say Im sad to see it go, but I will be carrying many lessons into my next year, and making big changes, the least of which is I will be going off call for most of the year to finish writing my book and working on finding a publisher.... So cheers, heres to the way the ground moves beneath us like a runaway horse and the supreme adaptability of the human spirit to ride those changes bareback into the wind. (Me bareback and bridle-less on my unicorn of a pony for a costume parade when I was 12)
