Wrapped in the Flag 11 hrs · I suspect that most FB readers will ignore this story -- it seems, on the surface, like a wonky dive into the gymnastics of lawmaking. But, take a closer look. This story outlines the complete malarkey of the right wing. Remember, these folks HATE the government and want to choke it to death in every way possible. But, wait . . . the GOP - who has been selling the notion that government is the enemy since the devilish Ronald Reagan intoned the idea -- that same GOP wants the evil federal government to backstop terrorist insurance for the big business interests. And, presto, the bill will be negotiated and become part of the big budget bill thats going to be voted on next week. From the article: The program, which is set to expire Dec. 31, was enacted after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and allows the government to cover insurance industry losses resulting from the physical damage caused by a terrorist attack. Its supporters contend that without the government backstop, it would be more difficult and expensive to get funding for major commercial real estate projects, such as skyscrapers and sports stadiums. Hate the government while demanding that the govt covers insurance industry losses in case of a terrorist attack. Thats the GOP way. And because the American voters are ignorant, the GOP has it both ways. [..and they will PAY for it by cutting funding for programs that benefit the 99%, children, elderly and veterans and MILITARY benefits. ]
