Wrote this for someone special today. I hope you are encouraged. You know who you are... Our past can’t define us, that’s why it’s behind us, and left behind for good Our scars made us strong, right or wrong we pressed on, and did the best we could Looking back at the choices made, the holes we dug and the price we paid The pain we caused, the friends we hurt, and the dreams we slowly let fade Hoping one day for a faint glimpse of light, to feel the love, to win the fight To turn our head forward, adjusting our sight, with the slight hope of seeing one star in the night As time starts to pass and the sky becomes clear, a voice from within we can finally hear says to keep pushing on, don’t give up, don’t turn back, deal with the baggage- it’s time to unpack You’ve made it through the darkest path, and came out whole again You did it alone, your seeds have been sown, your wounds will heal and your heart will feel And while the past lingers, it tempts and it haunts, it laughs at the old you, it prods and it taunts You stole all its power with one simple phrase “My future is now, time to see better days”.
