YES!!! Its DONE! Finished the last bit of MOBY at 5:30 AM yesterday and shipped it off to the US and UK editors. Slept for two hours, got up and started reading the galley proofs for the earlier sections. As my husband says, Finished is a relative term, for a writer. And we have another ten days to finish the last copy-edits (copy-editing is the thankless task of going through a manuscript word by word by word, looking for typos, adjusting for house style, searching out any inconsistencies in timing, appearances, dates, geography, etc. Its been done--and replied to by me--for the first seven sections; two more to do) and proof-read the galleys. Galleys are the typeset pages; theyre laid out and set in type just as theyll look in the finished book, complete with page numbers, headers/footers and design elements. Reading these is the _last_ opportunity to catch anything wrong, change anything that I think might be better, etc. Tedious and _very_ time-consuming--and were working to a tight, tight deadline here. So I may be scarce yet for a few more days, but will try to drop in.
