YMCA SHELTER UPDATE I’ve been busy the last couple of days trying to help deliver a positive solution to the ‘Axe’ currently hanging over the Emergency shelter at the YMCA. Last night I visited staff and the shelter in CMK and this morning have held discussion with Milton Keynes Council Chief executive Carole Mills to discuss the issue. What is clear is that there is a solution, the YMCA have plans in place to develop the site. New homes would fund the replacement and expansion of the Emergency Shelter on the existing site and remove the need for funding from the Council. The new homes would also result in an extra income for MKC through Council tax. Seems like a Win/Win situation to me, now we just need to get MK Council to think long term rather than short term and fully engage with the YMCA. In the meantime do please sign the petition at marklancastermp.org to demonstrate just how we feel about the potential loss of the Shelter and encourage MK Council to look at these plans seriously.
