YOU GOT THE POWER; SO USE IT BY PASTOR JOSEPH ZIBA One of the greatest treasures which God has made available to us is his power which enables us to function above the natural ability. The power of God is the ultimate power and every kind of power which is on earth originates from God. It is the power of God which controls the creation no wonder it makes us to reign in the world. The power of God is not supposed to be dormant on a life of a believer since God has made it available for a purpose. Do you want to see God using you mightily? Are you hungry to move in another level of anointing? If that is so, then you need to understand why God has given you his power. There are three reasons why the power is on your life. The power of God makes you a witness The power of God is what makes you a witness. A witness is not just a preacher but is someone who has a testimony or a record of what you have heard, touched or seen. When you are sent as a witness, you speak out of a conviction since you know that you have been sent to open the eyes of people. In John 3 v 11, the bible says; Verily, verily, I say unto thee, we speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. Without the power of God, the word which is preached becomes mere information to those who hear it since you don’t have a basis to validate what you are saying. A good example of a witness who moved in the power of God is Phillip in Acts 8 v 5 – 13. Phillip witnessed in the city of Samaria where he performed many signs and wonders by the power of God. In verse 6, the bible says; And the people with one accord gave heed to those things which Phillip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. Verse 8 says; And there was great joy in that city. Worth mentioning here is that by virtue of being a witness, heavens backed what Phillip did in Samaria. In Luke 4 v 14, the bible also talks about Jesus and what the power of God did on his life. It says; and Jesus returned in the power of the spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. By the power that was on him, Jesus did mighty things and this is why his fame grew. This shows us that when the power of God is on your life and you are using it, you are bound to become famous since you do things beyond human understanding. Sometimes, heaven stands as a witness but it fails to find another witness on earth so the matter fails to be established. The availability of a witness is what enables a matter to be established on earth. In Deuteronomy 19 v 15, the bible says; One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, shall the matter be established. When you are sent as a witness, you acquire a legal force to establish what you have been sent to accomplish. Mathew 18 v 18 puts this in a better way. It says; Verily I say unto you, whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Everything which heaven approves takes place on earth through a witness. On the contrary, everything which heaven is not approving is not approved on earth by a witness. For instance, since God does not recognize sickness, it is supposed to be rejected on earth and by the power of God, a witness stands to advocate for the same no wonder he heals the sick by the power of God. The power of God gives you a testimony Secondly, the power of God gives you a testimony or a record of what God has done. In 1 John 5 v 11 – 12, the bible says; And this is the record that God has given us eternal life. And this life is in his son. He that hath the son hath life: and he that hath not the son of God hath no life. Here, the bible reveals the evidence which John has concerning eternal life and this why he calls it a record. A good example of a record of what God has done is found in Mathew 4 v 1 -10 where the bible records, an encounter of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness. Christ overcame the devil by saying it is written in reference to what heavens said about him. Likewise, the power of God gives you a testimony of what God has already done. Whenever the devil tries to show you what is contrary to what God has already done, you need to open your mouth and declare your testimony. This may be a testimony of divine healing, salvation, prosperity and many more. When these words come out of your mouth, the devil does not stand. The word of testimony that you speak is known as ‘’Rhema’’ in Greek and it comes out of a conviction of what God has done. This word comes out as a sword and it makes the devil tremble and leave you just like what Jesus did. Another example of a testimony is found in 1 Samuel 17 v 37 where the bible says; David said moreover, the Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this philistine. And Saul said unto David, go and the Lord be with thee. David had a record of what God did before to his life and out of this conviction, he was determined to face Goliath knowing exactly what God will do. This is typical of what the power of God does; it gives you boldness which is the key to overcoming the devil. The power of God brings divine works Thirdly, the power of God is on your life to produce divine works. In 2 Peter 1 v 3, the bible says; According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue. The bible is so clear here that God has given us divine power which is known as ‘’Dunamis’’ in Greek for us to use it. The word Dumanis means God’s ability working in a man. Every divine work is birthed by the power of God which is at work in us. It is the power of God which enables us to heal the sick, to create new organs and to raise the dead. The presence of the power of God makes us to invade the realms of impossibility and change them to possibilities. For the works of God to manifest on earth through your life, you need to understand how God works with his power. In Ephesians 3 v 20, the word of God says; Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. How much of God’s power which is allowed to work in our lives is the limit which God can work in us. The more you allow the power of God to work on your life is the more you live a miraculous life. This means that the power of God we should allow to work on our lives should be beyond what we imagine if we are to do divine works which amaze the world In Romans 15 v 19, the bible talks about how Apostle Paul was able to do wonders through the power of God which was at work on him. Paul was a marvel that people called him a god. Divine works make you special and not just a commoner. But how is the power of God activated? In Luke 1 v 35, the Angel of the Lord told Mary what the power of God does when it comes on a life of a person. It says; And the Angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the son of God. The response of Mary to the communication made by the Angel shows that Mary knew that a miracle was supposed to happen right there, not in the future. This is evidenced by the question which she asked in verse 34. The Angel of the Lord in response explains what happens for the things of God to be birthed in a life of a person. For us to understand better what it means to be upon not in a person, we can look at the book of Luke 5 v 17 where the bible says the power of the Lord was present to heal. There are two things we can learn from here. Firstly, the power of God can be available in a person or cannot be available. Secondly, the power comes for a specific assignment as seen in the verse above; the power to heal. For a person not to miss his visitation in the presence of God, he has to be aware of the power or rather anointing which is available at a place at a particular time. In the book of John 20 v 22, the bible says he breathed in them, and then he said receive you the Holy Spirit. Though these men received the Holy Spirit by the breathing of Jesus, still we see Jesus promising his disciples in Luke 24 v 49 the endowment of power from on high. It says; And behold, I send the promise of my father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. The power had to be on their lives for the things of the spirit to be birthed. In Acts 2 , we now see the manifestation of what was also promised in Acts 1 v 8. At this point, the Holy Spirit was coming upon them not in them to bring out the things of God. This is the desire of God that he should be allowed by us to move about and not only be in us. His movement on our lives provides an environment for the things of God to be birthed by his power which he has given us. Remember the power of God is on your life for a reason, so use it to amaze the darkness and to display the manifold wisdom of God
