YOU KNOW THAT YOU HAVE FAILED....written by Ebuka Obi. I was in SS 2 then, University of Nigeria Secondary School, Nsukka. I was a young lad with a promising future, ambitious and reserved! It was school election and I indicated interest that I would contest for the post of the Labour Prefect. I knew that it would be an uphill task to achieve. Yes! Because I was virtually unpopular in my set and these were the sins that made me unpopular: I didnt attend set-parties to rock set-babes neither did I join my set-mates in playing football. I never joined to play PS in Doctor Chukwuma Bayaros Cousins house nor watch movies in Chijioke Oranaus house when Prof. travelled for sabbatical leave! The worst sin? I was a strong member of the school fellowship! All these made almost all my setmates to see me as a BLOODY JEW MAN! That said, I went ahead and kicked off my campaign. I was going about the campaign with the mind that even if i fail e no concern me, untill a setmate came out from nowhere, and called me: Obi? I answered Yes? He said: why are you decieving yourself?? YOU KNOW THAT YOU HAVE FAILED!! Jiz! Something died within me after the statement. The zeal to continue flew away. I went home that day and resolved that I have NO OTHER OPTION again than to win that election. Atleast to prove to him that I didnt know that I have failed. I changed my name to Obi Ke Re Re Nke (a name that made me to behave like ewu-mmeehhh later on), danced for the junior students and even promised to buy breadbuns for them (Lord have mercy)... Long story short? I won the Election! I DIDNT FAIL... Why did i take time to tell you this boring story? Please, dont take negetive statements personal instead use them as FUEL. When people say negative things to you, work hard to prove them wrong. Dont ever backoff. Do not underestimate your capabilities. Believe in yourself. Let the negetive statements stir you up! Let it keep beeping till you prove them wrong! Untill you understand that the BEST REVENGE is SUCCESS, then NO NEGETIVE statement will ever derail you. Moreover anyman can criticize, condemn and complain... only few can encourage! Be the few!
