Yay for Fitness Friday! Heres a fun Fit Power exercise to entertain the little ones and get them moving. I call this yoga-inspired move the crouching doggy. Here are the instructions: Start in a plank position and then push back into your legs (this move is called down dog in the yoga world. Next, bend your knees and crouch towards the floor until your knees are almost touching the ground, but dont let them touch. Then, push-back into your legs to the doggy position. Keep going until you’re spent, sip some water and then go for another round. This move focuses on strength and building muscle by using your own body weight, stretching and balance. It can be done anywhere – no gym or fancy gadgets required – and will make kids feel like crouching-doggy maniacs! (FYI, Im demonstrating this move in my kitchen to show you really can do it anywhere.) Want to make Fit Power moves like this a habit for little ones? Incorporate them into multiple parts of the day: ~A wake-up move before breakfast in the morning. ~An energy-burning move when kids get restless during class. ~An after-school move to get the blood pumping. ~A move to encourage physical activity during commercial breaks while watching TV. ~A wind-down move shortly before bedtime.
