Yazigi, Gerontopoulos stress need to multiply efforts to release kidnapped Bishops (23.10.2013) Patriarch of Antioch and All the East for Greek Orthodox, John X Yazigi, received on Wednesday the Assistant Foreign Minister for Religious Affairs in Greece Kyriakos Gerontopoulos on top of a delegation from the ministry, accompanied by the Ambassador of Greece in Lebanon Catherine Bora. Following the meeting, Yazigi said This visit comes to highlight the friendly relations of the Orthodox Church with all the churches. It is a good gesture that shows the aid provided to the region to restore peace and security in Lebanon and Syria, he added. In the case of the kidnapped Bishops, Yazigi noted that the President of the Republic contacted him personally, as well as the interior minister and Major General Abbas Ibrahim, to emphasize the seriousness in following up on this humanitarian file. Gerontopoulos, for his part, said it is such a great honor for us to visit the Patriarch of Antioch John X Yazigi whose role we appreciate at the service of the Orthodox Christian community in this region. Tackling the issue of the kidnapped bishops, he said that Greece was highly concerned in this file. It is a priority among our political dossiers, he added, assuring that his contacts yesterday with the Foreign Minister aimed to double the efforts in this regard, and hopefully reach a solution.
