Yes the country is fed up with politicians from all quarters. One playing the other down in the Dail as a vote winning exercise while real issues are skirted and comments played down. The people have very little voice in the Dail, yet it is supposed to be a democratically elected house. The country needs to completely transform politics and rethink what we really want in Dail Eireann. I have said before that we need firstly to get rid of party politics it is a recipe for corruption, secondly, get rid of the whip, everyone in the Dail should be allowed vote in accordance with their electorates wishes or their own conscience and informed judgement. So it boils down to independents from all walks, left, right middle, who cares? They form a National Government and elect the best people among them for Cabinet posts. Now you have a Dail for the people, if a Minister is not performing he is accountable to the house and can be replaced without pension etc, so all the perks usually associated with the current system gets replaced too. You get paid on your effort and successes, not because you are one of the boys in the club. I also think that the voting system needs to change, it seems to me to favour Parties and not individual candidates, maybe because parties can run 2 or 3 candidates for the same seats and get the preference votes as the others are eliminated. So maybe that needs to change? The people of this country have really had enough of this for a long time and well before this change of Government. An apathy has existed for many years as voters have been so disillusioned that they dont even bother to use their vote anymore. Politicians know this and it suits them, once there is no decent in the country, riots and violence, then who cares? And the Irish have taken it not by the spoonful but by the truck load for far too long and have now called stop. So what shall we do about building a better future? It is up to YOU so use that vote and demonstrate you objection to being treated like a patsy. .
