Yester day I had seen a small software developed by a very young guy who resigned his job in powergrid to develp MapEarth2D - this software helps in getting elevation data from Google Earth at predefined intervals/locations. Additionally the software will act as a bridge between your CAD drawings, Google Earth and GPS instrument. The software is designed keeping transmission line sector in mind and it generates results that can be used directly with PLSCADD. I found is highly useful for TL survey and I bought one licence and tried it yesterday. i feel it is a fantastic tool. the best part of the software is that we can extract information from google earth file (kmz format) and extract the data into excel. I strongly recommend that everyone who is into TL survey to buy this software which has introductory price of Rs. 5000. I have now a bigger worry that once the unethical surveyors get hold of this software they may even stop going to site to collect the ground profiles. So please ensure that engineers who are responsible to approvals ask for the raw data. You may get an idea by visiting (mapearth2d/). Please note that this software, once installed in one machine, can not be used in other since it generates the password by reading the details of the machine. Those who love pirated software my find this cant pirated.
