Yesterday Fran submitted a couple of photos and a sweet story for our Bodacious Thanksgiving Love... There was a couple who, after raising two children & several rescue dogs, found themselves alone. The children had grown & the last dog had crossed the Rainbow Bridge. The couple wasnt sure about taking on anything else however, one day when their friend Nancy called to see if they would take a little poodle about to go into poodle rescue, they decided to give their heart away one more time. This little poodle was called Sweeney & his antics & furry fun won them over over. He filled their empty nest with love. Sadly, after 10 years, Sweeney became suddenly ill & passed away within a week. Needless to say, the couple was heartbroken along with their youngest grandson, who had grown up with Sweeney. The couple said with tears & broken hearts Thats it. We just cant handle this pain. Sweeney was supposed to live longer & be our old age dog. No more dogs Well, that lasted about one week, as they wandered around their empty house with tears in their eyes all the time. Missing Sweeney was hurting so much. They knew that they had to open their hearts to another dog to help ease the emptiness in the house. And so the search began... Should it be the little scrappy puppy at the Waterford pound, or a rescue from their friend Nancy. One day someone from far away sent the lady a video of miniature poodle, dyed bright yellow & with hair so long his hair was in a pony tail on his head. Not the cutest site to see. In the video,a voice was telling the dog to sit & stay while a small child continually hit him in the head with a pair of sunglasses. The lady looked closely into the dogs eyes & saw a sadness in them that touched her heart. She knew that this dog needed them. The couple got in their car & drove for 2.5 hours to pick up this dog. After getting him home, groomed, took him to the vet, they could not believe how he looked like their little Sweeney only bigger. They named him Sawyer. Sawyer went straight to work doing his job of easing the pain from Sweeneys death. He ran around like a clown & cuddled close for love. A match was made, a perfect fit..They believe there is a little white doggie angel smiling down on them & Sawyer. And every day, we, opps, I mean they are thankful for Sawyer who filled the empty nest with fun & love!!!!! Thank you so much, Fran, for sharing your story with us.
