Yesterday, I did a short piece to remind people of the Grandparent - TopicsExpress

Yesterday, I did a short piece to remind people of the Grandparent Scam that comes around now and again. Goes like this: Senior citizen receives a phone call from a stranger who tells them that John or Mary, their grandson or granddaughter has been in a wreck somewhere/anywhere/here or in another country; they are okay, but in jail and need money wired to them immediately. Dont contact the parents because theyll just get upset. The caller could be posing as a policeman or attorney, and they may put on a posing granddaughter or grandson, who may not sound like your REAL grandson or granddaughter because their throat is bruised or something. Sure, if this were a real call, youd be concerned, but if you get a call like this, remember that chances are GREAT that it is a fake. First, hangup and call the parents to see if they know anything about this or call the grandson or granddaughter if you have a phone for them to verify the story. 99.9% of the time youll find that they are fine and no where near where the caller said they were. DO NOT EVER WIRE MONEY TO A STRANGER! If you do, it is gone; there is no way to get it back, and youll never find the people who did this to you. Should you have any questions about this, call the BBB office. Have a great week!
