Yesterday I got a call from the IRS in DC. I was informed that I was to be arrested for an outstanding tax debt of over $6,600. 00. This kind of struck me as funny, since I have had, many years ago, an outstanding tax liability, due to some child support issues, and was never threaten with prison, (5years) , or confiscation of my home, car and bank accounts. I asked the guy, How could this be? I am on SS disability and dont receive anywhere near the amount in compensation that would have me liable for such amount of money. With that, he said he would call my local IRS office to check. I immediately called the local IRS office. They do not answer questions at the local IRS office, they just make you sit through endless prompts and you get absolutely NO ANSWERS. I then called the IRS in DC and was finally connected with a, get this, real, living, breathing person. I gave her my information, and she informed me that I had NO TAX LIABILTY. That means, of course, I did not owe $6,600.00+. The original call from the IRS was a scam. I did not give any information to the culprit, even though he said my liability would be over $14,000.00 because of penalties and fines. I was never asked for any information from the scammer. That is probably because I told him that I was on SSD before he could get to offering me a way of paying this debt. If you get a call from the IRS and their number is 202 506 8392, dont worry about it. In fact, now that you know, you could have some fun with it. Ask the caller for your Social Security number, or your address, or the amount of your last refund. If he is from the IRS he should know all this information. I am just putting this out there. I hope none of my family or friends, or anyone else, for that matter, gets scammed by these bastards. If you do get this call, contact the IRS at irs.gov They will let you know what to do about it and how to protect yourself in the future.
