Yesterday I had the most fraught conversation with a bank teller Ive had since I used to rob them. I was cashing a check from a bookstore. Do you work for the bookstore, the friendly teller asked. No. They sold some of my books, so the check is the money they owed me. Oh, a writer. What is your book about? I didnt feel like telling her that I used to rob banks. Felt unseemly. Ah, about my life growing up. You seem too young to be writing about your life. Yeah, I wrote about the challenges I faced and how I worked through them. She would not let go. So whats the name of your book? Damn. Um, its titled The Man Who Outgrew His Prison Cell. I left out the subtitle Confessions of a Bank Robber but it screamed to come out. Oooh, sounds exciting. Well Mr. Loya, Im going to order it online later today. You have a nice day now! Shit, I going to have to change where I bank.
