Yesterday I stopped by the Health Dept in Redding to get some info on the new cottage food laws. $89 and some paperwork is all I need to start making bread again. Totally fair and reasonable. HOWEVER........ I need the building dept to sign me off for zoning. Apparently within the city limits of Redding, the city just signs it off. No paperwork. No fees. Get this.... Since I am outside the city limits, the fee for me to make bread in my home is $406!!! Yes, that is not a typo, $406!!! I said, "To make a few loaves of bread?" And they said "Yes". I am so bent. I have to figure out how to change this, it is absolutely ridiculous. Thanks again, Shasta County, for sucking me dry like a financial vampire.
