Yesterday I was swimming along Hove seafront. It was a very hot day and the beach and sea busy. I found myself tangled up in two fishing lines - not a pleasant experience. It would seem - according to the abusive fishermen - the fault was mine as I should expected to get garrotted by fishing lines off a busy seaside resort with the sea full of swimmers, paddleboarders etc. Are there guidelines about fishing off beaches or are people expected to use common sense ? When I swim early morning or off season fishermen are more obvious and I would swim in the other direction to avoid the lines. I would have assumed designated swim areas in high season would be inappropriate for fishing ??
