Yesterday I went hiking in the Laguna Mtns & starting about 2:40 - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I went hiking in the Laguna Mtns & starting about 2:40 that afternoon I had a very unusual experience. With a mile and a half from the TH I was up on a ridge w/ Los Gatos Ravine & trail to the west & Agua Dulce Ravine & trail (actually an old dirt road) to the east; & the two dont meet. Without any doubt I knew exactly where I was & I know my directions. I headed into a gully that comes out at Agua Dulce ravine & I came across a trail; the trail literally appeared before me. I first thought it a new trail, because there are no trails along this ridge, so I wanted to see where this trail went & headed south, the direction I had to go anyhow & came across some bike jumps (Los Gatos is the only trail w/ bike jumps) & I thought to myself this couldnt be Los Gatos. So I hiked some & then headed for this small rise to get my bearings & didnt see any familiar territory, just scrub brush, so I headed back to the trail. As I continued down the trail I realized the sun was to my left; I was heading north! even my compass confirmed that. How did I get headed north when I was going south? I turned & headed back up the trail & decided to walk it out, because I knew eventually Id come to something familiar. I came to a trail junction & sure enough I was on Los Gatos trail. How I got there I have no clue. The only way I could have gotten to Los Gatos trail from the gully would be to turn 180 hike up & out of the gully, over the ridge & to Los Gatos & I have no recollection doing that. And when I was heading south why was I really going north? And when I finally turned to go south It felt like I was going north so I kept looking at my compass. It was absolutely strange. When I got home I spent an hour looking at the satellite images & for the life of me I couldnt figure out how it happen. How is it that if you are heading east & turn right you end up going north? And How do you come upon a trail that shouldnt even be there? And It was as if the trail popped right out of the ground. My conclusion is that God super naturally moved me 250 yards to the west. For what reason I dont know. The conclusion that I didnt actually know where I was doesnt fly, because I knew exactly where I was. I think Ill go back out there next wk & retrace my steps. I experienced something like this almost 30 yrs ago; simply mindboggling.
