Yesterday I went out to the pasture to bring in my best buddy and horse friend, Tanzer (also my FEI horse), and immediately knew something was terribly wrong. His head hanging down, groaning in pain, and fumbling into the barn. I soon saw the depression in his head near is eye and knew he had fractured his skull, how this happened.. I will never know. As I waited for the vet to come I Ice packed his head and gave him bute. He was in so much pain, but seemed calmer as I stood there comforting him, one ice pack after another, he looked me in the eye and we were one trying to heal. After Dr Bob Strong treated him, I took him to Virg Tech Vets. They X rayed him, and yes a fracture, but he is going to be ok. So relieved, I minister to him today, we are so much closer together than ever. He loves my one on one special attention as I feed him soaked forage/ electrolytes and water holding the bucket at a comfortable level for his sore neck. He looks me in the eye, nozzles my pockets, where there are small bits of carrots for him to eat. I feed him, I love him! Thank you to all my friends who comforted and supported me through this!
