Yesterday I went to Baptist Womens Health Center for a followup - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I went to Baptist Womens Health Center for a followup mammogram. Thanks to the Lord that it was ok, but my radiologist spent time with me preparing me for the changes that will take place soon. Some very unsettling items were written into Obamacare that will probably go into effect after mid-term elections concerning mammography and womens health. I urge you to go to uspreventiveservicestaskforce.org to read them for yourself, but here are the highlights: *Mammograms every 24 (not 12) months for women 50-74. *No screening for anyone under 50 *Women are discouraged from doing self-exams with the explanation that they are not effective *Doctors are discouraged from including breast exams in yearly check ups *No mammograms after 75. I was appalled when she made me aware of this. Although I am in the defined high risk category because of my history of breast cancer, she said I would likely be thrown back into the screening pool rather than receiving diagnositc exams since it has been over 5 years. These standards are totally unacceptable. The reason for the decrease in deaths from breast cancer is related to early detection. Why isnt anyone taking up the fight? Why isnt Susan G. Komen Foundation outraged? Do people know? Surely those in the field do. I hate to be cynical, but what is going on? Be prepared for the propaganda that has already started. I was discussing this with a friend this morning and she told me she had just heard the doctor on the Today Show saying that yearly mammograms were not necessary. Tell that to someone whos had breast cancer and see what they say. I have no faith in our government, our political system, or people doing the right thing anymore just because its the right thing. The only place I put my faith anymore is God. Just thought everyone should be aware and object however you feel led.
