Yesterday another Raging Granny & myself attended the discussion re Naomi Kleins book This Changes Everything. I have a few key points that I recorded & would like to pass on: Global warming is caused by humans using fossil fuels. High tech solutions wont work. Theres things we can do without destroying our economy. A political opportunity exists - people can & should come together. Its up to US - we have to tap into our own power. A criminal element has been attached to environmentalist; politics has become brutal. This affects ALL of us! Demand transparency! Join an environmentalist group (like Dogwood Initiative) or find a group like Evidence for Democracy, a group of former govt scientists. Sign up & get their newsletter. https://evidencefordemocracy.ca/. Our obsession with growth is making us very unhappy. Free Trade has gotten in our way of solutions, forcing communities to engage in change that is against our normal practices. Will, from the Dogwood Initiative suggested A. Kleins book should be called This Could or MIGHT change everything. We are now in a battle to protect our homes. We have to change the People Problem. We have to figure out a way to live on less and share. People have to talk to one another. The choices we make every day MATTER! Find your tribe - thats what is going to save the world. First Nations peoples are some of the most sophisticated environmentalists in the world today; the sword & shield of a lot of environmentalists. Politics have changed, our responses havent. Elected people have to have ideals & common values.
