Yesterday was the birthday of my mentor. Seeing as it was also April Fools Day, I chose not to post my message. I can honestly say that Yasmin Busran change my life from the moment she went inside our Psych 53 (Social Psychology) class. From then on my life was never the same. She has opened up a different world for me. From a very sheltered one to a more challenging one. She has shaped my behavior and beliefs. She has taught me to be more faithful in a less traditional manner. She taught me that leadership is never in the title or position one is holding. Leadership is just done without thinking to whom will the credit go. Leadership is the ability to step forward when needed and backward when others want to lead. But it never means to withdraw when you cant get what you want, how you want things done. It is about thinking of the greater good and letting Allah (swt) lead you. She taught me to pray and ask for signs, for Allah (swt) will truly show you the signs. She is a mother, elder sister, confidant, and counselor to me. I will always be thankful to Allah (swt) for giving her to me. How I wish my children and other women have the chance to have a Yasmin in their life. Happy birthday! I wish you all the best and pray that Allah (swt) always guide you and never leave you in all times. We remain steadfast in the advocacy that you have started no matter where we are. You are a model of what a true servant can be. Perfect? Not. As you always said, only Allah (swt) is. Your imperfections remind us that you are human especially when we doubt it if you are because your patience and ability to hold back makes us think otherwise. Alhamdulillahi mashallah!
