Yesterday we took a bearded dragon to the vets that joined us in the rescue. It eats but isnt progressing as it should. We discovered what were hoping it wasnt! It has metabolic bone disease. This means throughout its life it hasnt had calcium and vitamin B. This is usually caused through no calcium supplements and lack of UV active lighting. The beardie we took has slight paralysis of its back legs and has very brittle bones so brittle we can bend his jaw bone easily as its so soft! Its growth is severly stunted and it is very underweight. We will treat this and give this little one the best quality of life possible (It will live a happy life) It is so very very sad how many beardies are sold to the wrong homes from pet shops and how much they are being overbred! Please only consider a reptile or any pet if you know how to care for them properly!!
