Yesterday, while hiking a neighboring property looking for maple - TopicsExpress

Yesterday, while hiking a neighboring property looking for maple trees we stumbled upon this ancient maple sugaring site. Look closely at the moss covered rocks. They formed the support arch for syrup pans with a wood fire in the box below. Scattered around the site are stacks of abandoned buckets, rotting into a century of leaves. These may have been last used 60, 80 or well over 100 years ago... who knows! What I do know, is that these hearty sugar-makers likely gathered their sap by foot or horse, and boiled out under the stars in this open air setup. I just closed my eyes and tried to image and appreciate what it was like.
