Yet another case of logic being turned on its head by electric vehicles! EVs have redefined conventional thinking in a number of areas. For example, we all think that slamming on the accelerator is not good for mileage, but that only applies to gas vehicles. An EV motor is MOST efficient at zero RPM, so there is no significant penalty to taking off at the line. Now, Elon Musk introduces the dual-motor Tesla Model S, which throws the thinking that an AWD vehicle has to be less efficient than a standard 2WD vehicle. This is because instead of one engine driving all wheels, the two motors are independent and can be controlled and adjusted to optimize the drive, and according to Elon, range actually INCREASES with the dual motors.
