Yoga & Injuries: A student asked me during a class how she can - TopicsExpress

Yoga & Injuries: A student asked me during a class how she can practice while she is healing from a ligament tear in her ankle. Or, maybe she should stop the practice. I never advise stopping the practice. There is always something to practice even if it is not an asana per say, but breathing or sitting or both. Having personally worked through many injuries either from an accident, an incorrect practice or at times from adjusting someone in a class, I have never personally stopped the practice cold turkey. In fact, I feel these are the kinds of practices that teach you a lot about your expectations, judgement, non-acceptance of what is and our general mode of trying to achieve something out of the postures. Working through and with an injury gives a really good window into how to better practice, how to make necessary adjustments and how to stay present. The question is not if one should stop practice, but HOW to practice. I always recommend working around the injured area being careful not to aggravate it. As well, its a good time to be creative strengthening other areas of the body and mind. Go carefully, mindfully and I know, in the end, a little practice aids the healing process in many ways. In short, you do what you can and leave the rest. #practice #sadhana #yoga #goals #therapy #postures #study #teaching #injuries #healinginjurieswithyoga
