Yohanan EliYah Looking through just this one link, telling the stories of a handful of freedom fighters from the civil rights era- Im amazed by how many people were in and out of jails and prisons- just to establish access to some rights that had already been legislated, but at the time had yet to be enforced. Of course they were fighting to get new laws established as well- but the point I get overall is the contrast between then and now. What will it take to get folks in the mind that they can accept going to jail if that is a part of what it will take to get these laws changed for ALL of us? Back then it was just as big a sacrifice, or even bigger than it is now. Back then they were facing mad dogs, crazy cops beating their heads in, fire hoses blasting them, and regular ol white folks coming from here and there with guns and bombs and so forth. Looking back, of course we are literally living off of the benefit of those sacrifices. It is the greatest showing of disrespect for us to sit back and take advantage, without paying our own dues in this, our own day. Click on the link. Imagine yourself standing up against injustice today. Will there be a record for your grandchildren to read through? Will they be able to see where YOU put your life on the line, or your degree(s) to work for freedom? Or will they just be looking forward to when you die, so they can get some money from selling your things? Click on the link. crmvet.org/images/imgms.htm
