You are Special to Me! REMEMBER THAT NAME “The nicest sounding word in any language is a person’s own name.” - Dale Carnegie Remembering a name is the first step in building rapport with people. Here are two simple steps to help you: 1. SPELL THE NAME. When you first meet someone, visualize the name written in your mind. Ask the person how it’s spelled – many names have different spellings, and we all want ours spelled correctly. When you ask about their name, you compliment them. 2. USE THE NAME IN CONVERSATION. “Nice to meet you, Gary.” People like to hear their name, pronounced correctly, and when you use it you are locking it in your mind. Ask them about their name, how it’s pronounced, what it means. Again, it is a compliment when you pay attention to their name. The key in meeting people is to focus -- if you didn’t hear the name, ask them to repeat it. Show that you are interested in them, and they’ll be interested in what you have to offer.
